When tarot began flourishing on TikTok, many experienced readers dismissed it as incompatible with serious practice. Short videos, public readings, and algorithm-driven visibility seemed to encourage superficiality, misinformation, and blurred boundaries. TikTok Tarot: Reading Tarot in the Age of the Algorithm begins from that skepticism—and what happened when two long-time tarot readers decided to test those assumptions firsthand. In this talk, the Brent and Dee explore their journey from reluctance to active participation, discussing what actually happens when experienced readers engage thoughtfully with the platform. Topics include ethical considerations of public divination, audience dynamics, and the unexpected ways depth, care, and real connection can exist even in fast-moving digital spaces. This session also offers practical reassurance for those who feel intimidated by social media. Attendees will learn what the true “bare minimum” for getting started looks like, why technical polish is far less important than consistency and authenticity, and how it’s normal—and expected—to start rough and improve as you go. Emphasis is placed on discovering a personal style that fits both the reader and the medium, rather than chasing trends or imitation. Finally, the talk highlights the importance of community: engaging with other tarot readers as peers rather than competitors, and cultivating client relationships rooted in trust rather than virality. This session is ideal for experienced readers curious about TikTok, skeptical of social media tarot, or seeking grounded ways to participate without compromising their values.
